Travel

Registration will be at the location where you shall be lodging from the 18 – 23 December 2010. There are two locations:

  1. The host university: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The campus is located in Serdang – the registration will take place at the 10th Residential College of UPM which is opposite the Faculty of Engineering, which is also the debate venue for the preliminary rounds, quarters, semifinals and Grand Final. If you get on a taxi, please mention the residence and tell the driver that it is opposite the faculty.
  2. The official hotel: Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel and Resort. The hotel is located in Putrajaya – the administrative capital of Malaysia. It is situated near to the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Getting to your registration venue:

To UPM and Pullman Putrajaya from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)

Taxi. My preferred mode of transport. The travel by taxi will take an approximate 30 – 45 minutes depending on the driving.

There are 4 types of taxi you can choose:

Budget Taxi – 3 to 4 passengers
Premier Limo – 4 to 5 passengers
Super Luxury – 3 passengers
Family Services – 8 passengers

Coupons for taxis can be purchased at the airport limo counters situated at the …

  1. International arrival hall (right after the customs and before the meeting / public area)
  2. Domestic arrival hall
  3. Domestic baggage reclaim, arrival level

Train. The train service from KLIA is called the KLIA Transit. The train makes it way to the city (KL) every 30 minutes with 3 stops along the way. Purchase a ticket that stops at the Putrajaya station. The journey would approxiamtely take 15 minutes.

At the Putrajaya station, the organizers shall provide transport to the host university or official hotel. This service however, is only available from 0900 hours – 2100 hours (Malaysian time). If you do arrive at the time where the service is no longer available, you may either call the official hotel for a pick-up (which is provided for free, but very limited) or take a taxi which would be significantly cheaper (comparing to airport limo / taxis) as both the official hotel and host university is a mere 15 minutes drive from the station.

NOTE: If your registration venue is at the host university, please do not do something funny like call the hotel for a pick-up and expect them to send you to the university.

To UPM and Pullman Putrajaya from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT)

If you end up here, it is mostly because you took a flight using AirAsia. The best-est way to get yourself to UPM or the official hotel is to get yourself to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) first and foremost. There are two options to do that:

Taxi. Again, my most preferred mode of transport. Expensive (if compared to the other alternatives) but reliable and less painful.

Alternatively (if you have the funds), you can just get the taxi to drive you all the way to your registration venue.

Bus. Take a transit bus from LCCT to KLIA. The journey is approximately 15 minutes and the cost is MYR1.50.

Once you get yourself to KLIA, feel free to pick a travel option and follow the instruction above.

To UPM and Putrajaya from Kuala Lumpur Sentral (City)

Kuala Lumpur Sentral is the transportaion hub of the city – you can practical get anywhere in Malaysia from KL Sentral.

The best option however, is to hop on the KLIA Transit and stop at Putrajaya station.
